Our Story – with Susanne Teske

Susanne Teske’s approach to business has seen Mackay Taxi Trucks go from strength to strength over the last 23 years.

Hard-working but humble, when Susanne started her business from her backyard all those years ago, she didn’t expect she would one day have a fully fledged courier company that employed multiple drivers and serviced the entire Mackay and surrounding region.

“I didn’t really think about it – it was all I knew, and at the time I needed work.”

Susanne was a single mother with two teenage daughters and said she started the business with one truck.

“It was scary at the start but we’ve had some very loyal customers over the years. My first customer was One Steel, who still use us to this day.”

“I would drive trucks during the day and do the paperwork at night. My dad helped with the banking in the early years.”

Susanne has seen her business thrive and struggle through the highs and lows of Mackay’s mining downturn but has successfully driven the company through hard times.

Two years ago, she signed the company over to her daughter and son-in-law, Monique and Brad Woods, as part-owners.

The couple have plans to grow the business and continue providing excellent service to customers in the Mackay region.

Susanne still plays an important role in the business, but also enjoys taking a back seat and spending time with her three (soon-to-be four) grandchildren.
